Recycle, reduce & get more environmentally aware

We believe that if we all do a little bit for the environment it can make a difference. Even if you are a doubter then read on because even one small change is a good start. You never know you might really enjoy setting out as a greener family.

Pregnancy is often the time when you consider the chemicals used within your household. Air fresheners aren’t kind to goldfish – so what’s it doing to us? There are lots of things you can do to get off to the right start in parenting. It doesn’t have to involve tree hugging (although you can if you feel the need), it’s more about being responsible for your own actions.

Consider washable nappies if you haven’t already. Reduces landfill and makes you feel like a real eco parent!

Don’t buy disposables but try washables. This goes for nappies (again), use dish cloths instead of kitchen paper, cloth napkins instead of the paper kind…..we could go on..

Save money! Turn your thermostat down. It is estimated we could all save up to £250 per year.

Compost. Yes its simple, reduces landfill and give you lovely soil for your garden (or your friend’s garden if you don’t have one). Just add all your fruit and veg scraps.

Reduce chemicals in your home. Good old soap and water actually cleans well and does not affect aquatic life when it gets in to the water system.

Recycle recycle! Take time to set up a good recycling system at home. This makes the whole process smoother when its collection day. Find out exactly what can be recycled locally and let your children join in as they love recycling.

Buy recycled. Amazing things are now made from recycled products. Why not give them a try?

Use and reuse as much as you can in your home. It’s amazing what can be reused.

Pass on to a friend. Instead of throwing something in the bin stop and think, can someone else use it? Could it go to the charity shop? Unused toys go to toy sales or a children’s hospital.

Buy bigger. If you buy products of any kind, get the bigger sizes as this reduces the frequency in which you bin a product and it’s packaging.

Don’t use carrier bags. As each city goes plastic bag free it is going to be harder to use them so invest in good quality reusable bags.
