Breastfeeding health benefits for mums too!

It’s been a busy month for The Baby Gurus with lots of exciting new projects planned for 2008.  One of which is the launch of our new baby change bag.

Not very exciting you may think but this will be a totally eco friendly bag, ticking all the right boxes as far as the environment is concerned.  It will be an ideal purchase or gift for all the new parents to be who have a conscience about the environment but also want to have a trendy, highly functional bag for their babies too.  We are working with an exciting new company called ‘Get serious world’ who have recently launched their new eco friendly jute bags.  I was lucky enough to be invited to their celebration launch party, held at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, which was chosen for its connection to the historic jute industry from the Dundee area.

As you know, at the heart of The Baby Gurus is the aim to help parents have a good birth experience and subsequently get off to a good start with parenting so we are always reading up on new evidence to support what we are teaching.  We very much promote breastfeeding and new research comes out all the time about why this is the best way for babies to be fed. Recently, however, the World Cancer Research fund produced a review which stated that there is now convincing evidence that breastfeeding helps women to by protecting against breast cancer. There is also evidence that breastfeeding protects against cancer of the ovary too so there are lots of health benefits for breastfeeding mums as well as babies. Of course understanding the benefits of breastfeeding is only one aspect of being able to feed your baby yourself. You need lots of support from family, friends and health professionals and a lot of motivation and perseverance – but its definitely worth it!
